GRIANGHRAIF & DOICIMÉID Á LORG – CALL FOR PHOTOS & DOCUMENTS

Grianghraif agus doiciméid stairiúla á lorg

Call for historic photos and documents

Ar an 5 Márta 1898, maidir le bunú chraobh de Chonradh na Gaeilge i mBéalÁtha’nGhaorthaidh, d’fhoilsigh The Southern Star alt ina raibh an méid seo a leanas:

‘In no part of Ireland is the Irish language spoken to greater perfection than here [Béal Átha’n Ghaorthaidh]. The district is literally overflowing with Irish story and song, and there are now hopes that a large body of these will be recorded and given to the world.’

An féidir leat a bheith páirteach sna scéalta seo a roinnt leis an domhan? An bhfuil seanghrianghraif agat de dhaoine a d’fhreastail ar Choláiste na Mumhan? An bhfuil aon scéalta agat faoi Choláiste na Mumhan ? An bhfuil aon seanlitreacha agat a scríobhadh ó nó chuig daoine a bhí sa Choláiste , nó a bhaineann leis an gColáiste?

Más ea, ba bhreá le coiste An Súgán cloisteáil uait. Táimid ag bailiú ábhar stairiúil – bunchóipeanna nó cóipeanna – a bhaineann le Coláiste na Mumhan faoi láthair, chun cartlann d’eolas áitiúil a chruthú, agus beidh cuid de sin le feiceáil i músaem An Súgáin.

Más féidir leat cabhrú, labhair le duine ar bith de bhaill an choiste le do thoil: Tim Twomey, Seán Ó Súilleabháin, Heidi Houlihan, Dónal Ó Laoire.

Nó déan teagmháil linn ag: ansuganbealatha@gmail.com

Bheadh áthas orainn bualadh leat chun aon chuimhní cinn nó scéalta nach bhfuil scríofa síos faoi láthair a bhailiú.

Tabhair faoi deara, le do thoil, nach féidir linn glacadh le déantáin mar gheall ar shrianta spáis – grianghraif, scéalta ná doiciméid amháin.

On 5 March 1898, on the formation of the Ballingeary branch of the Gaelic League, The Southern Star published an article which included the following:

‘In no part of Ireland is the Irish language spoken to greater perfection than here [Béal Átha’n Ghaorthaidh]. The district is literally overflowing with Irish story and song, and there are now hopes that a large body of these will be recorded and given to the world.’

Can you be involved in giving these stories to the world? Do you have old photos of people who attended Coláiste na Mumhan? Do you have any stories about Coláiste na Mumhan which have been passed down through your family? Do you have any old letters written from or to Coláiste students or relating to the Coláiste?

If so, the An Súgán committee would love to hear from you. We are currently collecting historic material – originals or copies – relating to Coláiste na Mumhan, to create an archive of local information, some of which will feature in the An Súgán museum.

If you can help, please talk to any of the committee members: Tim Twomey, Seán Ó Súilleabháin, Heidi Houlihan, Dónal Ó Laoire.

Or contact us on: ansuganbealatha@gmail.com

We are happy to meet you to collect any memories or stories which are not currently written down.

Please note that due to space restrictions we are not able to accept artefacts – only photos, stories or documents.
